21 Day Battery Challenge

Huawei GT6 Series

Client: MSL x Huawei

Project type: Video Production

Role: VFX and UI design — on-screen graphics, storyboards, and motion toolkit

Design agency: MSL UK — Part of Publicis Groupe

Background: For the UK launch of the Huawei GT6 Series, Olympic champion Mo Farah became the face of a film showcasing the watch’s 21-day battery life. The storyline—“Mo vs the GT6 Pro”—followed his training across football pitches, cycling routes, and city runs, visualising how even his endurance couldn’t exhaust the battery.

Insights: Early edits showed the story of “Mo vs the GT6 Pro” needed stronger visual storytelling. The graphics had to guide the narrative, not just decorate it.

I focused on balancing human endurance with machine precision — turning each element, from heart-rate spikes to the fading battery ring, into a metaphor for control and resilience.

The UI acted as a silent narrator: responsive, minimal, and tactile, rooted in Huawei’s circular logic but alive in motion. While Huawei later simplified the visuals for production, the core framework and rhythm stayed true to my original design direction.

Objective: Build a real-time data layer—heart-rate, cycling power, GPS accuracy, and battery-vs-days challenge—that communicated the story clearly across 16:9, 9:16, and 4:5 formats without distracting from live-action footage.

Approach: Developed one core visual style inspired by the GT6’s circular UI, refined through several iterations to balance clarity and elegance across day and night scenes. Built a modular UI kit covering all motion briefs — from battery overlays and data dials to GPS and title cards — and created storyboards detailing motion, timing, and placement to keep graphics seamlessly aligned with Mo Farah’s movement.

Impact: The final graphics unified the narrative across all scenes, visually expressing the 21-day endurance challenge. The result was a premium, data-driven aesthetic consistent with Huawei Health’s ecosystem—helping the campaign achieve strong social traction and positive press coverage for clarity, realism, and brand fidelity.
